Building A Wooden Bodyboard / Bellyboard

This video is a bit of an experiment. I filmed it three years ago to document myself creating a bellyboard after an amazing time riding one on a family holiday.

It eventually became part of a much bigger film—a project I just couldn’t seem to finish. It was holding me back from starting this channel, so I decided to re-edit it, keep it simple, and finally get it online.

So, here it is: my first YouTube video in a long time and the very first one on this channel. Let’s start with an introduction.

Hi, I’m Ed, and I run Skald, a creative agency and small studio. I’ve always loved making things. It started with music (the song in this video is one of mine).

Then came taking photos, making films, creating art, and even shaping boards. The ocean and the great outdoors have been constant sources of inspiration for me—a muse for so much of what I’ve created. However creating in the digital world has its drawbacks. It’s always pulling us inside, asking us to put more of ourselves online or tempting us to spend endless hours consuming content.

That reluctance to over-commit to the digital space is one of the reasons I’ve hesitated to start this channel. That said, I’m here now to showcase my work, grow a community, and find new opportunities. I also want to strike a balance between family life, running a business, and carving out time for adventure.
